The New
Eclipse board game- played twice. The second game took a long time but I did not feel like pushing people out of analysis paralysis mode. Hope we can get this one to take in our group, and I really want to replace those ships with something cooler (BFG?)
Dungeon World- played a silly demo with the guys of this one and had an absolute blast. Frostiod FTW
Spartacus- another shorter run demo style of this game. It is everything the reviews promise. So much theme built into this game.
Pandemic- this is a good game. Played once. I wish I would have picked this one up rather than forbidden island.
Lords of Vegas- somehow the random elements of this game work really well. Playing with poker chips rather than paper money is smart as hell. A fun light con worthy game.
Some Descent was played, but is not worth mentioning beyond that. The Overlord made us his bitches...
We were also able to get a game of Chaos in. Always an excellent choice. On the last day Erik and Larry ran me through a quick Bolt Action demo. Skirmish based minis games seem to be the way of the future. I for one am excited. Looking forward to Excesscon 5!
Thanks again for attending Will! Despite the low morale debacle caused by my lack of organization this year coupled with the dark side of descent ... I still had an epic time. As always LARRYCON shall arise from the ashes anew next year, bigger and better.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which on the agenda next year:
T-Shirts for LARRYCON V!!!
Dude ... Fallcon/Scottcon ... whatever we call it :)
ReplyDeleteIs coming up again. We are going to try to scope out Quinn's vacation house in St. George and if it is a decent setup we are going to host a weekend event there that weekend after Halloween (October 25th-26th). I have enough stuff painted for Bolt Action and Song of Blades and Heroes already that we could literally do a full campaigns of either of those if we wanted, but of course we'll have board games, RPGs, etc. to roll out as well.
If the accommodations seem like they'd support our efforts (sounds like its 3 bedrooms 2 bath which could easily accommodate 6-8 of us with air mattresses, etc.). The rough plan would be everyone show up by Friday night (we'd be there by Thursday night most likely) and we'd game till late that night, all day on Sat, until late on Sat and then probably eat some breakfast together ... do some gaming during the day on Sunday and then just depending on whether or not folks took Monday off too ... either cut out ... or continue gaming that eve too ... just depending.
Anyway we should be going in a few weeks to check it out and I'll let you and Scott know how it checks out.
